Two friends have set-off on a world record attempt to become the first women to circumnavigate the globe on a tandem bike.

Rachael Marsden, from Oxford, and Catherine Dixon, from London, who are both in their fifties, began their worldwide journey at Beeline Cycles on Cowley Road, Oxford, on Saturday.

They will pedal through 25 countries on five continents, averaging between 80 and 100 miles a day as they aim to cycle around the world in less than 320 days.

Money raised will go to Oxfam and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The pair will carry their own equipment and camp most nights.
