A MAN was beaten by a group of 'up to eight' attackers while walking along an alleyway in Witney at the weekend.

Sometime between midnight and 12.30am on Sunday, the 28-year-old was between The Leys and St Mary’s Court when he was set upon.

He was hit on the head from behind, and then struck several more times.

The man was taken to hospital with a fractured eye socket, as well as shoulder and back injuries.

He has since been discharged.

The attackers are described as a group of up to eight people, one a woman and the rest men.

They are all described as being in their twenties. One man was around 5ft 9ins tall, of a medium build and short dark hair. He was dressed in dark clothing.

The woman is described as white, around 5ft 5ins tall, with dark shoulder length hair and slim.

Police have been contacted about whether they are treating the attack as connected to an assault at the Leys on Saturday after music festival LibFest in which a 17-year-old boy was knocked unconscious and stamped on the head.

Investigating officer, DC Graeme Johnson, of Banbury police station, said: “I am appealing for witnesses to this incident, which was a terrifying experience for the victim.

“He sustained a number of injuries requiring hospital treatment.
