A SECOND World War hero received a special award from the RAF's leading welfare charity.
Allan Scott, 98, took home the special recognition award at the RAF Benevolent Fund's annual awards in London last week.
The Witney resident flew Spitfires after joining the air force aged 18 in 1940 and fought in the Battle of Britain.
Mr Scott is a long-standing supporter of the RAF Benevolent Fund and continues to support the charity by donating a portion of proceeds from sales of his book, Born to Survive.
He said: "The RAF Benevolent Fund is a wonderful organisation. It offers members of the RAF Family a wide range of support, and I am willing to help out it in any way, shape or form I can. I always have done, and I always will do.”
Air vice-marshal David Murray, chief executive at the RAF Benevolent Fund, offered his congratulations, adding: “Our annual awards night is a fantastic opportunity to thank all of our incredible fundraisers and supporters, their enthusiasm and generosity truly means the world to us."
The charity is celebrating its centenary year and has launched a major campaign to double the number of people it supports.
