HIGH costs of children's activities are putting parents off during the summer holidays, leading to children spending more time indoors.
Research has shown that almost 80 per cent of Oxford parents say cost prevents their children from participating in outdoor activities.
A study commissioned by Great British Racing for its ‘Under 18s Race Free’ campaign found that the majority of parents are struggling to find affordable activities for children during summertime.
While 82 per cent of those surveyed wanted their children to spend more time outdoors during the school holidays, most said they were restricted by costs.
79 percent of Oxford responders believed there were not enough low-cost outdoor activities available to them, and that that led to their children spending more time at home.
Live sport events were flagged as being particularly pricey, which was part of the reasoning behind starting the campaign.
Tess Daly, Great British Racing ambassador and mother of two, said: "Finding activities that are stimulating, healthy and affordable can be a challenge. My parents went out of their way to take me to live sport and I do the same for my kids now."
‘U18s Race Free’ offers under 18s free entry to fixtures at Britain’s 60 racecourses throughout the year, when accompanied by an adult.
