A GROUP of tireless fundraisers are gearing up for the 20th Witney in the Pink – and asking for the town’s support to make this the biggest and best ever.

This vibrant community occasion, which takes place on Saturday, October 5, from 10am-5pm, has raised nearly £100,000 over the past 20 years for the Abingdon-based charity Against Breast Cancer’s research to improve detection, treatment and increase survival from breast cancer.

The main focus is preventing secondary spread, the main cause of breast cancer-related deaths.

Witney in the Pink is organised by the charity’s Witney Action Group, and they are lining up a fun-filled day in the town centre, which will be decorated with hundreds of biodegradable pink balloons.

Witney estate agents, Parkers, are sponsoring the event.

Action group chair, Jeanne Chattoe, said: “Pink day is a fantastic community event and we are so grateful for all the support, help and funds we’ve received over the years.

“We need your help again this year to make our 20th event the biggest and best yet and raise funds for an incredible cause.

“Would you like to sponsor Pink day, or join entertainers such as Witney Town Band and the WOAPA singers providing the street entertainment?

"Could you bake a cake for the cake stall or offer a tombola prize? Do you have a pink car and would like to join our pink street parade? Or could you shake a donation tin for a couple of hours?"

Organisers want shops, pubs, and businesses to take part in the pink shop window competition, or to run an initiative such as pink drinks, a raffle or quiz.
