While sixth form leavers have an anxious wait for A-Level results on Thursday, and Year 11 leavers for GCSEs a week later, students were all smiles before the end of term at their end-of-year balls.

Burford School in West Oxfordshire held a leaving prom for Year 11 at Eynsham Hall, attended by more than 190 students.

Students arrived in a wide variety of vehicles, from sports cars to tractors, before enjoying the sunshine in the venue's striking gardens and a two-course meal.

The Endeavour Academy in Barton, a school for pupils aged 8-19, who have moderate to severe learning difficulties and autism, held its first leavers' ball last month.

Five students who finished their studies this year attended the party, enjoying a red carpet entrance, mocktail bar, buffet and photo booth.

They were then presented with a graduation certificate by the school's principal, Michaela Soporova.

Jenna Bent, the school's deputy headteacher, hailed the party a 'great success' and said they are planning an even better party next year.

She said: "The leavers were escorted to the ball in style – one was brought in an Audi convertible and our students enjoyed a ride around the block in a classic car from the US movie Christine, which one of our parents had shipped over in parts and lovingly restored."

St Gregory the Great Catholic School staged a prom for Year 11 leavers at Oxford Town Hall, while Oxford Spires Academy held theirs at the Oxford Belfry.

The vice principal of the latter arrived on a Harley Davidson motorcycle, before the school community enjoyed a three-course meal and crowned their elected prom king and queen.

Students will reunite midway through the summer holidays on Thursday and the following Thursday, returning to school to collect exam results.
