A NEW primary school to serve the Barton Park development has officially been signed off by the county council.

Barton Park Primary School will have capacity for 360 children and employ the equivalent of 41 full-time staff when it opens in September 2020.

The L-shaped, two-storey school will include a community hub and will be sited on the 885-home estate.

Of the children using the primary school, 315 will use its primary education spaces, while there will be capacity for another 45 in its nursery.

Two of housing development's four phases have already got planning permission from Oxford City Council.

Developers said they will install 32 bike spaces for staff and children to use at the new school.

The Community Schools Alliance Trust will run it. It will be operated as part of a network with Cheney School and another Barton school, Bayards Hill Primary.

Developers in a planning statement said: "The proposals represent a high quality contemporary design, which will support and enhance the character of the surrounding development and introduce a new community facility to serve the local catchment of both new and existing communities."

Plans for the project were fully approved by Oxfordshire County Council earlier this month.
