PUPILS from across West Oxfordshire were all smiles as they celebrated their A-Level results.

Many schools throughout the county reported record results as hundreds of teenagers ended weeks of waiting on Thursday.

In Witney, Wood Green School continued its recent upward curve, with 27 per cent of entries achieving A* and A grades - up from 17 per cent in 2018.

The school was placed in special measures by Ofsted in November 2013 but is now rated good, while next month it welcomes its largest cohort in several years.

Twins Katy and Ben Keedwell were delighted after getting into Brighton and Sussex Medical School and Warwick University to study medicine and physics respectively.

Witney Gazette:

Mr Keedwell, who is 10 minutes younger than his sister, admitted the nerves were heightened by waiting for his twin's result.

He said: "I was stressed before I found out, as I was in no way sure I had got in. I didn't want to do well if she didn't, but I'm so excited for her."

Eight Henry Box School pupils achieved all A*s and As, but Carl Tysom, the school’s head of sixth form, paid tribute to the whole year group.

Witney Gazette:

He said: “The straight-A students worked hard and they obviously deserve everything.

“I’d also like to celebrate the students that have worked their socks off to get Bs, Cs and sometimes Ds.

“That story sometimes isn’t told and we’re particularly proud of all of them, because they have strived equally as hard to get their results.”
