A PAEDOPHILE who fled his trial was caught after a public appeal.
Craig McAndrew was on trial at Lewes Crown Court facing ten charges of sexual assault on multiple occasions against girls known to him.
The 34-year-old removals worker faces charges against girls under the age of 13 between 2016 and 2018.
But after his trial opened on September 9, but McAndrew fled the next day, so a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The trial continued, and a jury found him guilty in his absence on September 16.
He was guilty of eight sex attacks on one girl and two against another in Newhaven.
McAndrew, of no fixed address, gave himself up in Watford.
Detective Constable Julie Nightingale, said: "Following our news and social media appeal for information on McAndrew's whereabouts, focusing on Watford where he was born and brought up, he came into Watford police station early on Saturday morning and gave himself up.
"We think the publicity helped make him decide to do this."
DC Nightingale thanked colleagues at Hertfordshire police.
Now McAndrew faces sentence on October 25.
