GENEROUS residents in Oxfordshire left almost a million pounds to the British Heart Foundation in their wills last year.

In partnership with the National Free Wills Network, the charity is now offering a free will writing service, which will allow supporters to have a simple will written or amended by a solicitor.

After providing for loved ones, the charity hopes people might want to include a gift in their will.

In 2018/19, £978,000 was left by people in the county, which has gone towards research, including at Oxford University, which is trying to find new reasons why children are born with heart defects.

Dr Duncan Sparrow, who is leading the project, said: “Research like mine can only be possible thanks to all the generous people who have remembered the British Heart Foundation in their will.

"I want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you to these people.

"Their foresight and generosity will help to improve diagnosis and treatments for decades to come.”
