THE emotional moment two brothers from Didcot are reunited with their dad is to feature in a calendar sold across the UK.

The photo of nine-year-old Owen Hollinshead and his brother Brayden, six, giving their dad Mark Hollinshead a massive hug will appear as the January entry for next year's Little Troopers Military Moments calendar.

Staff Sergeant Mark Hollinshead, his boys and their mum Lian all live at Vauxhall Barracks in Didcot and the picture, chosen from hundreds of entries, captures the boys' emotional reunion with their dad who spent the summer serving away on exercise.

Now that moment will feature in the charity calendar raising money to support children whose parents are serving in the British Armed Forces.

The boys' mum said: "The picture shows just now happy and excited they were to have their dad home.

"Mark had been away all summer on exercise and we planned to surprise the children when he came home.

Oxford Mail:

"It was a very special moment and we’re over the moon that it’s going to be included in the Little Troopers calendar.

"Owen in particular really struggled before his dad went away, but he did adapt and cope really well once he got used to it."

Little Troopers founder; Army veteran and military parent, Louise Fetigan, added: “We are delighted that Owen and Brayden will feature in our calendar this year.

"Their picture really captures that special moment that all military families have been through when children are reunited with a parent who has been away.

"One of the biggest challenges military children face is being regularly separated from their serving parent for long periods, at unpredictable times and sometimes at very short notice. That’s why Little Troopers exists, to champion and support all our military children, whatever forces life sends their way."

The Military Moments 2020 calendar is now on sale, costing £7.50, with all proceeds helping Little Troopers to continue providing fundamental resources and initiatives to support military children such as the Little Troopers Treasures storytime app and Little Troopers Separation Pack.
