PEOPLE have less than a month to make sure they are registered to vote in the upcoming general election.

Oxford City Council returning officer, Anita Bradley, said: “We want to make sure that everyone who is entitled to vote can do so - and that means being registered. Don’t miss the chance to have a say on December 12.”

To get added to the electoral register visit gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Name, address, date of birth and National Insurance number are needed and the deadline is midnight on November 26.

Those registered will get a polling card in the post with their polling station. EU citizens, who are not British, Irish, Cypriot or Maltese, are not eligible to vote in UK parliamentary elections.

Students who are registered in Oxford and at their home address must choose one place in which to vote.

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on December 12.

Anyone unable to attend a polling station on the day can apply for a postal or proxy vote.

A postal vote allows residents to post their vote to the council in advance of the election. The deadline to apply is 5pm on November 26.

A proxy vote nominates a specific person to vote on an someone's behalf at their polling station.

The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on December 4.
