AN OXFORDSHIRE crematorium and memorial park is planning to expand its operation.

The owners of South Oxfordshire Crematorium and Memorial Park near Abingdon have applied for planning permission to grow.

As well as expanding the scenic memorial park area, the company is proposing to create more car park spaces and build a new toilet block for visitors.

A new ‘flower court’ is also imagined for the site on the A338 near the village of Garford.

Submitting proposals to South Oxfordshire District Council the owners said they wanted to: “Maintain and build upon the existing character of the crematorium site which is attractive, calming and has tangible links to the wider rural landscape.”

They also said one of their goals was to ‘sensitively locate the development in order to minimise potential adverse effects on landscape, features, biodiversity and visual amenity and to mitigate for any predicted effects within the proposed design’.

The council is aiming to make a decision by January 2.
