A FALLEN tree and a crash on a busy road have caused heavy delays.

An AA spokesman warned of "severe delays" on the A259 near Littlehampton after the incidents this morning.

He said: "The road are blocked and there is queueing traffic due to a fallen tree and an accident on the A259 both ways between Church Lane and the B2187 Bridge Road.

"Callers have said that there is also an accident which has blocked the road.

"This is affecting traffic in surrounding roads.

"There are severe delays of 14 minutes, and these delays are increasing, in Worthing Road, Climping.

"The average speed is ten mph."

Bus company Stagecoach South said the incidents were affecting its services.

A spokesman said: "The 700 Service from Littlehampton to Chichester currently suffering serious delays due to a fallen tree blocking the road."

The road has now been cleared and traffic in the area is returning to normal.

This is the second tree to have blocked a road in Sussex today.

In the early hours of this morning, Hastings Police warned drivers of a tree blocking the A21 (pictured).

At about 5am, a spokesman for the force said: "The A21 will be closed for at least the next 3 hours whilst teams deal with the fallen power cables and tree.

"Expect delays, please use alternate routes and allow extra time for diversions."

The road was closed from 3am but has since reopened.
