A 17-year-old boy was robbed and assaulted while cycling in a village near Faringdon.

The victim saw two boys approaching him from the opposite direction as he rode through Longworth on Sunday.

As he passed them, they attacked him and pulled him from his bicycle.

A third boy arrived and the victim was punched in the face, sustaining a black eye.

The attackers then took cash from him.

The three boys ran off on foot towards Longworth village.

Police are appealing for witnesses of the incident that happened on the Beggars Lane overbridge, which crosses the A420 from Longworth towards Southmoor at around 3.30pm.

The first offender was white, around 6ft tall, in his late teens and with a medium build.

He had short brown hair and was wearing black square glasses and a black tracksuit with a hood.

The second boy is described as around the same age, white, around 6ft tall of medium build.

He had short blonde hair and was wearing a black hooded tracksuit.

The third attacker was white, again around 6ft tall with a medium build with short brown hair and a black tracksuit.

The boy was treated for his injuries at the John Radcliffe Hospital and has since been discharged.

Investigator Chris Leech said: "This was an unprovoked attack which resulted in the victim being robbed and hit in the face.

"Although his injuries were thankfully not serious, this was a distressing incident."
