Residents are being warned to expect travel disruption and possible flooding between now and Friday.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain.
The warning has come into force this afternoon and extends through until midday on Friday.
Forecasters say 'homes and businesses could be flooded'and 'delays or cancellaions to train and bus services are possible.'

The warning adds: 'Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.'
It comes on what are expected to be some of the busiest days for the roads this year, as people set out to see their families for Christmas.
Thursday is expected to be the worst day to travel.
The worst-hit areas is likely to be the south west of the country, with the Met Office warning rural communities in that area and in Wales could be cut off.
