Professional moaners raised funds to restore local landmark to its former glory.

Wantage locals Mike Hissey and Darron Walton, who started the Facebook page 'Let's have a Moan. Wantage and Grove Community' that encourages residents to complain about everyday matters like roadworks and fireworks, organised a lottery with the winning prize of a flight over Oxfordshire landscapes.

The funds were used for the installation of two LED lights that now illuminate a giant plane located beside the roundabout at the intersection of Mably Way and Denchworth Road.

While initially they did not have a specific charitable cause in mind, the two friends knew they wanted 'to raise some money to give back to the community'.

Mr Hissey said the landmark painted in RAF markings was lit up ten years ago but since its lights were stolen noone bothered to repair them.

In a Facebook post last week the page administrator wrote: "When we first started up this page we were not expecting it to be such a huge success.

"One of our first moans was 'why is the plane not lit up anymore'.

"Well Moaners take a look what we did. We lit (the plane) up again."

A portion of the money raised also funded a flight for a local resident who is terminally ill.

The community of over 2,000 moaners seemed thrilled with Mr Hissey and Mr Walton's campaign.

One of them, Carole McKivitt, said: "Looks great - first thing I noticed approaching home on this wet, dismal night - well done and thank you."

Mr Hissey said he does not have another project in mind but promised to organise a big event after the holidays.
