A SCHOOL is entering 2020 with renewed confidence after celebrating two successes at the tail end of the year.

Hailey CE Primary School in West Oxfordshire ranked among the best for its Key Stage 2 SATs writing results, recording the eighth-best score in Oxfordshire.

The 2019 results were published by the government just before Christmas, ranking every state school in the county for writing, reading and maths.

Hailey school, near Witney, gained a writing progress score of 3.4, which the government classed as 'well above average'.

It had a small cohort of 13 pupils taking the exams, and was also in the top 20 in the county for the percentage of pupils gaining the expected standard.

The results table went live just weeks after the 105-pupil school was handed a 'good' Ofsted rating, following an inspection in late October.

Inspectors' report said children feel 'happy and safe' and demonstrated 'relaxed but respectful' interaction with staff.

They added: "Leaders are rightly proud of pupils’ consistently secure achievements in reading, writing and mathematics by the time they leave the school.

"Pupils value the opportunities afforded to them to be part of the wider life of the school.

"They develop secure skills as responsible citizens because of the focus on their behaviour and attitudes."

Children told inspectors that 'everyone is kind and friendly' at their school.

It was the Hailey's first full inspection since 2011, when it was also rated 'good'.

It was also its first inspection under Ofsted's new framework, which was introduced in September.

Headteacher Debbie Davies said she was 'delighted' by the school's recent achievements.

She said: "The ‘good’ judgement is testament to the hard work and commitment of staff.

"I am particularly pleased to have achieved good under the new Ofsted framework, which sets out more exacting standards for the school curriculum.

"We are already working with staff on implementing plans to enhance our rich and balanced curriculum for each year group."

This year the school hopes to progress with plans for a 'peace pod' in its grounds, funded by local supporters and the Tesco Bags of Help scheme, to provide a dedicated area for children with additional needs.
