Kiefer Sutherland – best known as Jack Bauer in the drama series 24 – is swapping Hollywood for the open road as he tours a new album of country music. And he is coming to Oxford.

Kiefer plays the O2 Academy Oxford in Cowley Road on March 2, to play tunes from his second LP, Reckless & Me.

The album is the follow up to his critically acclaimed 2016 debut, Down In A Hole. It sees the London-born artist spreading his wings as an Americana and country rock artist and highlights his gift of soulful storytelling.

Kiefer, son of acting legend Donald Sutherland (The Dirty Dozen, M*A*S*H, Kelly's Heroes and The Hunger Games), found fame in movies Lost Boys, Young Guns and Flatliners before taking on the mantle of the perpetually harassed counter terrorism operative in 24.

He last visited Oxford in 2018, performing at the O2 Academy as part of his Reckless tour.

To celebrate the event, he was presented with a gift of ‘welcome to Oxford’ cakes by the city’s own cupcake maker extraordinaire Julia Atkinson of Summertown-based Happy Cakes.

Kiefer shared a picture of himself with the treats with his nearly 500,000 followers on Twitter.

“I couldn’t have imagined the depth with which I have fallen in love with touring,” he said at the time. “To have the opportunity to convey intimate, personal stories to an audience has, for me, proven to be priceless.”

A special edition of Reckless & Me includes the original album along with a bonus disc, Live In Berlin, featuring Kiefer and his band in the German capital.

He says: “We’ve played so many shows over the past five years, to have one of them recorded so that fans who couldn’t make a show because we didn’t play in their particular town or city, is very special to me.

Oxford Mail:

“I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed playing it.”

Kiefer is not only a decent actor and musician. His other talents include cattle ranching and being a professional cowboy! – having won several roping championships.

Potential hecklers at tonight’s show would be advised to stay out of lasso range.
