A 51-year-old man was threatened at gunpoint by two hijackers who stole his van in East Oxford.

The victim, who was driving his white Ford Transit Connect along Marsh Road, off Cowley Road, was pulled over by two unknown men on Monday, January 6, between 10pm and 11.30pm.

One man jumped into the front passenger seat and threatened the driver with what is believed to be a gun and a knife.

The other man approached the van and both offenders left the scene taking the van keys with them.

The victim, who was not injured, was helped by a member of the public to move the van so it did not block the road.

When the man later returned to where he had left his van the Ford Transit was missing.

The first offender is described as a black man, aged between 25 and 30.

The second offender is described as a white man, also aged between 25 and 30.

Investigating officer Vicki Hopkins said: "We are carrying out a thorough investigation and I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to please get in touch.

"I am particularly keen to speak to the member of the public who stopped to help the victim move his van off the road."
