A MAN charged with raping a boy as part of an alleged campaign of sexual abuse told jurors he was 'never alone' with his victim.

Sabir Hussain went on to say that he had 'an alibi' and was in Pakistan when some of the alleged abuse took place.

Hussain, of Nye Bevan Close, Oxford, is accused of a string of indecent assaults and one count of rape.

The charges cover a period of years throughout the 1990s.

At the start of the 42-year-old’s trial at Oxford Crown Court on Monday, prosecutor Nadia Chbat said the alleged victim - who cannot be named for legal reasons - was sexually assaulted dozens of times from the age of 11.

As his trial continued today Hussain took to the witness box to deny any wrong-doing.

Answering questions from his defence barrister Martin Khoshdel he said he had first come to the UK from his native Pakistan as a baby.

He told jurors he later moved to Oxford, where he currently lives.

Asked about the allegations against him he said: "This never, ever happened. I was never alone with him at all. Never."

Hussain was asked if specific instances of alleged abuse ever took place - which he repeatedly denied, saying 'this is not true, members of the jury' to most of those questions.

Asked if he knew why his alleged victim had made the allegations in the first place he said simply 'I don't know, members of the jury.'

Jurors were also shown a marriage certificate for a ceremony held in Pakistan in the mid 1990s with Hussain and his wife.

During cross examination Hussain was asked why he had only produced this document at court this week and not ahead of the trial.

Prosecutor Nadia Chbat put to him: "You know that [the alleged victim] was saying that the abuse stopped when you went to go and get married?"

Hussain answered: "That's not true."

Ms Chbat went on: "So the date of getting married is important, yes? Why haven't we seen that document until today?"

He said: "I was asked to bring my marriage certificate yesterday from my barrister."

Ms Chbat put to him: "You are saying you have an alibi, 'I could not have done this as I was in Pakistan?'

He answered: "That's right."

Asked why he hadn't produced the marriage certificate before he said: "You have to ask my barrister or solicitor why did they not produce it.

"I have dyslexia, I didn't know [the police] would want my marriage certificate, they didn't ask for it.

"I have always had it on me."

Prosecutors maintain that he sexually abused his child victim on multiple occasions.

Earlier in the trial jurors heard a police interview the alleged victim gave, in which he described what he claims took place.

He said he felt ‘disgust’ at himself for going along with some of things he was asked to do.

Asked how often it happened, he said: “So many times that it became a regular occurrence.”

The man said after he was raped he was in pain but was too afraid to tell anyone and said: “I learned to live with pain for a long time.”

The trial continues.
