Oxfordshire County Council said the closure was due to the 'unsafe condition of the nearby aircraft hangar due to the high winds', and said it the road would remain closed until inspection could be carried out.

It is shut in both directions between the junctions of Honeyham Close and Viscount Industrial Estate.

Wind speeds at the airbase reached almost 40mph by 2pm, according to the Met Office's records online.
