A FORMER teacher at one of Oxford's most famous schools has been spared jail after he was caught with images of children.

Dr Paul Dean, who worked at the Dragon School, admitted three counts of making indecent images of children in December.

The 66-year-old, of Cunliffe Close in Oxford, had three photographs in the most severe category – A, three in Category B and nine in category C.

Category A images show penetrative sexual activity while Category B images involve other sexual activity.

Category C images are defined as those with 'sexually suggestive' content such as nude photos.

The offences all took place on or before January 31, 2018.

Oxford Mail:

After his plea of guilty the matter was adjourned for the preparation of a pre-sentence report by the National Probation Service.

At Oxford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, Dean was handed a six-month sentence suspended for 24 months.

If he gets caught breaking the law again in the next two-years, he could face six months behind bars.

Dean has also been put on the sex offenders register for seven years.

He has also lost his job at the Dragon School, which has released a statement on the back of his sentencing explaining that he did not commit the crimes at the school.

It said: "These offences did not take place on the school premises, nor did they relate to current or former Dragon School pupils.

"As soon as the school was made aware of this police investigation, the individual was suspended with immediate effect and shortly afterwards his contract with Dragon School was terminated."

Dean will also have to take part in a rehabilitation activity for 25 days as part of his sentence and must also pay a victim surcharge of £110 and court costs of £85.
