AN animal sanctuary facing closure has invited volunteers to help it get back into shape today.

Water Fowl Sanctuary and Children's Farm near Hook Norton has asked helpers to come and lend a hand with minor repairs any time from 10.30am to 4pm.

Sanctuary owner Mabel Warner, 88, has run the centre and children’s farm in Wiggington Heath with her son Rodney for three decades.

But after failing to meet animal welfare standards due to an increase in costs, Mrs Warner had her pet shop licence renewal refused by Cherwell District Council and she was forced to close in December.

After meeting with officers this month, she is now working with them to get her site back up to acceptable standards.

Today's event is the first in a series of days where volunteers are invited to come and lend a hand.
