OXFORDSHIRE'S hockey clubs will have to wait until at least April 15 to complete their seasons - despite some having just one game remaining.

England Hockey suspended all nationally run hockey activity last night following government advice on how to tackle the coronavirus.

The sport's governing body urged leagues, clubs and schools to support the measures, adding: "This decision will impact activities at differing levels and scale.

"We will continue to monitor the situation carefully and react as best we can during these unprecedented times."

Oxford Hawks Hockey Club tweeted shortly after: "Following the latest guidance from EH and the government, it is with great regret that we announce all junior and senior training and matches are suspended with immediate effect."

Hawks' women's and men's teams are among those to have just one game left in Conference West and Division 1 South respectively.

Oxford OBU also have a single game to play in Premier Division 2 West, as do Hawks' 2nds in MBBO Regional 1.
