OXFORD Pride has postponed its parade until autumn at least, due to coronavirus.

The festival is held annually to celebrate the city's LGBTQ+ community, ending with rainbow-coloured crowds coming together for Parade Day.

This year's parade was due to take place on Saturday, May 30, from the usual spot in Radcliffe Square.

However, organisers announced today that the 'difficult decision' had been made to postpone.

A message on Oxford Pride's Facebook page said: "We are currently working towards a new potential date in Autumn 2020, which will be announced as soon as possible.

"Above all else, it’s of paramount importance [for] us to do as much as we can to promote the safety and wellbeing of our Pride attendees and the wider community of Oxfordshire.

"Thousands of people attend our Parade Day each year, and as a mass gathering, we cannot run the risk of further people acquiring the virus within Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties."

It is one of many events to be cancelled or postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

May Morning celebrations in Oxford have also been cancelled today, as has FloFest in Oxford.
