EVERY week, Oxford Mail readers leave a generous amount of comments on our articles online.

We love to know what you think to our stories and what's going on in Oxfordshire.

This week, coronavirus has dominated the headlines - locally, nationally and globally.

With this in mind, we took a look at some of our most read stories about Covid-19 and how you reacted to them.

After stores closed at Bicester Village and staff 'resigned', one commenter said: "Fair play to the staff... non essential shops should close."

Meanwhile, Nickalias Name added: "I don't blame the employees for quitting but kudos to the brands that have closed."

Steve Burt, who said he works at Bicester Village, added: "Bicester Village employs over 3,500 people from the local area and to make a hasty decision to close the village will inevitably have a knock on effect in people's employment."

Another article readers got their teeth into was the revealing of a coronavirus case at a Royal Mail office in Oxfordshire.

DKR1987 joked (we hope): "This fella hasn't got it. He wanted a few days off and things got out of hand."

Koyaani Sqatsi also joked (again we hope) that they had 'opened their gas bill and touched their mouth in horror at the amount' referring to how the virus could've been on their bill.

A third story that got everyone talking was about Oxford doctor Chris Gough tweeting that he was recovering from Covid-19.

WestofBotley was angered by the situation, saying "In all of this disaster, this makes me angriest - that months into it, we still aren't adequately protecting or testing front line medical staff, who daily put their lives on the line for us."

Clios echoed those sentiments, saying: "Nursing staff are frightened, confused, and frustrated at the lack of testing for ourselves and the community."

A final story which led to a raft of online discussion was one that wasn't coronavirus related.

The building of a new bridge over the River Thames in Oxford got a lot of you talking, pointing out the pros and cons to the proposed new bridge.

"Why doesn't the University pay for this as it's primarily for their students and graduates," said No Platformer.

This led to a series of replies, including 'Tosh. The bridge would be of great benefit to any residents of Grandpont or New Hinksey wanting a quick, quiet route to the station.'

Sue Wizzz disagreed, arguing "There's already a pedestrian/cyclist bridge over the river at Grandpont. Another one less than 100m downriver at Friars Wharf. Why is there a need for a costly third one?"

SNJ seemed to find the middle ground, saying: "It's for everyone: I can't wait to use it.

"I do agree though that it will be a big benefit for the University once they have redeveloped the Osney Mead industrial estate."

A debate then opened up about bridges in Oxfordshire and where they might be needed, with one commenter saying, "If we are going to talk about bridges then Abingdon could do with another and definitely Witney needs a second."
