GIN manufacturer The Oxford Artisan Distillery is diversifying to make hand sanitisers during the coronavirus crisis.

Hand washing is a key method of fighting the virus and staff at the Headington-based distillery want to contribute in any way they can.

The company’s Facebook page said: “From gin to hand sanitiser. Great distillers are always the heart and soul of each distillery, and we are fortunate to have Cory, Michael and Rufus, who are taking into turns to come to the distillery to produce hand sanitisers, for our local authority.”

Annette Reeve posted: “Well done you and looking forward to stocking up on gin when all this is over and we are next in the area!”

Ross Phillips added: “At last a local artisanal hand sanitiser.

“If it’s green and smells of wormwood I’ll take a couple of bottles.”

The company’s website said there was free delivery for its gin in the UK.

It added: “In light of the latest government advice we have taken the decision to temporarily cancel our distillery tours at least until May 27 and close the distillery shop.

"We will continue to monitor government advice and review our tour schedule after May 27.

“Vouchers – including tour vouchers, can also be purchased online – without the need for a specific date.
