AN OXFORDSHIRE MP has launched a new initiative to celebrate the unsung heroes during the coronavirus pandemic in his constituency.

Witney MP Robert Courts wants to recognise the people across West Oxfordshire who are going above and beyond to help others, whilst the country tackles Covid-19.

Nominations can be made on Mr Courts’ website, and he will then write to those nominated as a token of appreciation.

In a statement on his website, the Conservative MP said: “We are all aware of the immense debt of gratitude we owe our frontline workers who are doing everything they can to keep us safe and healthy as we tackle coronavirus - be that NHS workers, social care staff, the police and other emergency services.

“But there are countless other unsung heroes who are all playing their part to help support our community during these most difficult of times.

“These heroes are the business owners who have offered supplies to those in need, they are the dedicated volunteers who are delivering vital supplies such as food and medicine to the elderly and isolated, and they are the many thousands of us who have called to check in on our vulnerable neighbours, friends, and family.

“I am incredibly proud of our community’s response to coronavirus, and the way so many people have selflessly given up their time and effort to support those in need.

“Our community truly has pulled together to get each other through this unprecedented crisis.

“West Oxfordshire’s Unsung Heroes is a way for us all to recognise those in our community who have gone above and beyond to help others.

“If you know of anyone doing extraordinary things to help others, I want to know about it so their efforts do not go unnoticed.”
