CHARITY shops have reopened in Oxfordshire!

Swinging open their doors today were the team at the Helen & Douglas House shop in Rose Hill.

Shop manager Neke Hardy said they were overwhelmed with shoppers and donations, and people queued outside because they are only letting 12 customers in at a time.

Ms Hardy, who lives in Brize Norton and has worked at the shop for five years, said: "It's been hectic, but a very good first day back.

"We did have to control the door because we're only allowing 12 people in at a time, and we had queues at the till and donations galore.

"We were very pleased."

Oxford Mail:

Vicky MacFarlane is manager of the charity's Summertown shop which also reopened yesterday.

As well as limiting the number of customers inside (alongside two members of staff), the shop has other new rules as well.

Customers are asked to sanitise their hands before going in, then stick to a new one-way system, and then sanitise their hands again when they get to the checkout.

The shop on Rose Hill, like others around Oxfordshire, raises money for Oxford's beloved Helen & Douglas House children's hospice, which looks after terminally-ill youngsters.

The charity also reopened its Summertown shop today and said other branches would reopen over the next eight weeks.

Asked if she had been annoyed about having to go back to work today, Ms Hardy said: "I couldn't wait to come back, I just love it here.

"It's the best charity in the world."
