AFTER a long three months, military parachute training has resumed at RAF Brize Norton.

The RAF Falcons paused training in March, but the team came together again last month for the first time since they left the USA, after taking part in winter training in California.

Flight Lieutenant Chris Wilce said: “As all our supporters will be aware, display training is not the only reason for our existence.

“All the parachute jumping instructor and officer team members have to conduct military parachute training and despatching throughout the year to keep their skill set current and competent.

“This training will enable each member of the team to be ready for a subsequent posting to a military parachuting role after life as an RAF Falcon.”

Due to coronavirus, the Falcons have been unable to begin the 2020 display season, which was due to start in May, with public events across the UK cancelled to minimise the spread of the virus.

Sergeant Ben Sammut, a first year Falcon, said: “It’s a great shame we haven’t been able to put on our famous display for the fans this year thus far.

“We hope to see them again sometime soon, when the time is right for us as a nation.”

The team can fall at speeds of up to 120mph during displays.
