The hammer was found beneath a chair one of the youths was sitting on at Portchester Precinct.

Posting on social media Fareham Police said: "Officers have been patrolling Portchester Precinct following reports of anti-social behaviour taking place on the rooftops.

"When we attended we found a group of youths who had congregated in the usual area. We noted their details and moved them on.

"As we were assisting with securing the rooftop, we found this hammer, which was located directly beneath a chair one of the youths was sat on.

"This shows what dangers our officers have faced on a 'routine' patrol.

"The hammer has been seized for destruction and officers are now investigating the matter."
