BURGLARS stole thousands of pounds worth of bikes and toys from a nursery before ‘pooing by the entrance’.

The thieves then ‘trod in it’ and walked around the playground and in the sandpit ‘contaminating everywhere’.

An afterschool club was forced to turn toddlers away when owners made the grim discovery last Tuesday.

Now, thousands of pounds has been raised to replace the stolen and broken play equipment and help cover the expensive cleaning bill.

Lucy Collinson, who is on the committee of Wheatley Pre-School, started a Go Fund Me page in a bid to raise £2,000.

The money will be split equally between the pre-school and ‘Cool Kids’ – an afterschool, breakfast and holiday club, that also use the site outside of term times.

On Saturday cleaners were paid to fumigate the play area and make it safe so Cool Kids could return on Monday after nearly a week out of action.

Witney Gazette:

In just six days the target for the fundraising page has been smashed and 129 donors have helped raise £2,655.

Ms Collinson, who has nephews at the pre-school, said the thieves stole trikes (three-wheeled bikes), balance bikes, sit on diggers, hula hoops and ‘other small bits’.

The storage area was also broken

Trikes cost around £140 and balance bikes cost £100.

The sandpit also needed new sand after it was ‘contaminated’.

On the fundraising page, which can be found here, she said it had taken ‘years’ to build the collection.
