A GROUP of more than 50 young people had to be dispersed by police after they were found underage drinking in an Abingdon park.

Abingdon’s neighbourhood policing newsletter for August said foot and cycle patrols had been continuing with focus on hot spot areas ‘which still appears to be Albert Park, among others’.

Police said last Friday (July 31) ‘disappointingly’ officers had to break up more than 50 young people from the park

The newsletter added: “They were found to be underage drinking, being antisocial by dropping litter, screaming, shouting and generally being disruptive to the local community.

Several groups were also dispersed from the park on July 28 by PCSO Ali Blood.

She also stop checked two other men, one of whom was found to have a bag of cannabis on him.

He subsequently attended the police station for a follow up interview and was given a community resolution.

The newsletter went on to contain a ‘plea to parents and guardians’ asking: “Do you know where your son/daughter is when they go out?

“Are they mixing in large groups? Drinking underage, dropping litter and generally being antisocial in the local community?

“We all want to enjoy the lovely open spaces but this is being spoilt by a minority."
