A MAN is in hospital with a serious head injury after being punched in the head in a vicious town centre attack

At aprroximately 12.20am today a man aged in his 30s, was assaulted in Banbury's Market Place, near to the junction with Parsons Street.

Police believe he was punched to the head, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground.

He was taken to hospital with a serious head injury where he currently remains. 

There is currently no description available of the attacker and no arrests have been made.

Investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Larry Johnson, of Banbury police station, said: “I am appealing for witnesses to this incident of assault, which has left a man requiring hospital treatment.

“I am appealing to members of the public who may have been in the area of Market Square, or nearby, at around the time this incident happened, to please come forward if they have any information."

He added: “I would like to offer reassurance to the public that we believe this incident to be isolated, and that there is not a threat to the wider community.

“Residents will see an increased police presence in the area while officers make enquiries into this incident, so I would like to thank them for their patience while this takes place.
