MOTORISTS using the busy A40 north of Oxford, face fresh traffic restrictions under new proposals.
Oxfordshire County Council wants to introduce a number of measures aimed at 'improving the flow of traffic to reduce journey times, and help to improve road safety’ on a stretch of the road, which doubles as the city's ring road.
The affected area would cover a stretch of the A40 Northern By-pass approaching the Wolvercote roundabout.
The changes, if approved, would include an extension of the 30mph speed limit to beyond the A34 flyover, and a new 40mph speed replacing parts of the existing speed limits.
There will also be a 7.5 tonne weight restriction on four proposed new access roads situated at either side of the A40 near the Wolvercote roundabout.
A new bus-only lane would also be introduced on the A40's nearside lane from close to the A34 flyover to approaching Wolvercote roundabout.
Taxis would not be permitted to use the bus lane under the plans.

The council has now launched a consultation seeking people's views on the proposals.
Views on the plans will be taken until September 11.
