A PASSENGER is fighting for his life in hospital after a police chase. 

At just before 11pm on Tuesday (Septmeber 15), a dark blue Vauxhall Corsa failed to stop for police officers in Banbury town centre.

The car then joined the A4260 road at speed, in the direction of Oxford

As it approached the B4100, Aynho Road, it overtook another car on the road.

But it lost control and then crashed into a stone wall on the offside of the road before stopping. 

A passenger in the car, a man in his fifties, has life-threatening injuries and is still in hospital. 

A second passenger, a woman in her fourties, was left with minor injuries and was taken to hospital but has now been discharged.

The driver, a 22-year-old man from Walsall, was taken to hospital for treatment but then later released.

He was also arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation. 

Thames Valley Police has made a mandatory referral to the IOPC after the incident. 

Investigating officer, sergeant Naomi Hames, of the Roads Policing Department, said: "I am appealing for witnesses to this incident, which resulted in three people sustaining injuries, one of which, a man in his fifties, sustaining life threatening injuries.

"I would like to appeal to any other drivers who were using this road at the same time as this incident on Tuesday. Did you see a dark blue Vauxhall Corse, or did you see this inicident taking place? 

"We would like to hear from anyone who has any information in relation to this inicident."
