A FORMER post office is set to be demolished to make way for housing.

Oxford City Council has granted planning permission for a trio of three-bed homes in place of the ground floor shop in St Peter's Road, Wolvercote.

The former Londis store, located at the junction with First Turn, has been empty since 2018, although a house of multiple occupation remains on the floor above.

But it will be knocked down in favour of a two-and-a-half storey terraced building, which will have a sloped southern side to preserve neighbours' daylight.

Each house is set to get a single parking space at the front of the property, along with a private garden at the back.

The surrounding streets are governed by a controlled parking zone.

A host of objections to the plans were raised among 36 comments from the public, with criticisms including a lack of provision for vehicles, the impact on pollution and the effect on the area's character.

But council officers felt the objections did not amount "individually or cumulatively, to a reason for refusal and that all the issues that have been raised have been adequately addressed and the relevant bodies consulted".
