WHITCHURCH Foodbank has launched a fresh appeal for donations in the run up to Christmas.

As reported in last week's Herald, Whitchurch Foodbank has been extremely busy since the start of the Covid-19 crisis but thanks to the generosity of local people and businesses, it has continued to supply food to those most in need.

As Christmas approaches, the Foodbank is planning to support more individuals and families throughout what, for many, will be a very difficult time.

Eileen Livesey, from Whitchurch Foodbank, says many families throughout the Whitchurch and Wem area would benefit from additional food items being delivered to them.

She said: "Donations of Christmas items such as mince pies, chocolate, Christmas cake and puddings, biscuits, selection boxes, etc would be greatly welcomed.

"If purchased at Tesco, Sainsbury's or Wem Co-op, items can be left in the collection boxes there.

"Otherwise please contact the foodbank on 01948 663943 or at info@whitchurch.foodbank.org.uk

"A full list of items that are required is available on the Foodbank website www.whitchurch.foodbank.org.uk

"Donations of new toys will also be added to the Christmas food parcels."

Eileen also thanked those who had donated already and anyone else involved in the foodbank's operation.

"The trustees and management would like to thank those who supported the Foodbank recently, particularly over the last weekend with the collection of food at Tesco's," added Eileen.

"This collection is extremely important in the run-up to Christmas and along with the regular donations at the store, helps to meet the demand for the food we supply over the festive period.

"We would like to thank the management and staff at Tesco's for their continued support in organising the collection for us.

"Managing the demands of the last few months would not have been possible without the continued hard work of our volunteers who have committed themselves in many ways preparing and delivering food.

"Sincere thanks goes out to them as well."
