ANOTHER three Covid-19 deaths have been announced at Oxfordshire's hospitals as the UK now has the highest death rate from the virus of any country in the world.

The UK overtook the Czech Republic, which had held the top spot since 11 January, according to data from University of Oxford.

According to the Government's coronavirus-dedicated website, as of 4.43pm on Monday, these were the number of new cases in 24 hours by local authority:

Oxford - 116

South Oxfordshire - 58

West Oxfordshire - 30

Vale of White Horse - 39

Cherwell - 114

Public Health England revealed there have been 37,535 new cases.

A further 532 people, who tested positive for the virus have died, with 107 from them in the South East region.

This brings the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 61,453.

Patients were aged between 35 and 103 years old.

All except 21, who were aged 40 to 97 years old, had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from December 13 to January 17 with the majority being on or after January 10.

The families of the deceased have already been informed.

A total of 4,062,501 people have now received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and according to official data the UK has given more jabs per 100 people than any other European country.
