VOLUNTEERS at a Roman villa have been praised for their work in the past 12 months.
The group of 25 volunteers at the North Leigh Roman Villa were finalists at the Heritage Alliance’s Heritage Heroes awards.
The group has worked to promote the site as a resource for wellbeing and education during the pandemic.
During the summer, the volunteers led a series of open days, hosting over 1,250 visitors, a figure nearly twice as many as the previous year.

Mosaics last regularly open to visitors about 30 years ago were given a deep clean in September, to celebrate the 1,000th visitor of 2020.
Visitors donated nearly £1,000 to benefit the site during the course of last year.
The Roman villa at North Leigh is considered one of the larger villas of Roman Britain.
It was at its most extensive in the early fourth century when it included four bath suites, 16 mosaic floors and 11 rooms with under-floor heating.
