VICTIMS of flooding during the Christmas period are to get a discount on their council tax.

The decision was made during a West Oxfordshire District Council (WODC) meeting, which lasted just over three minutes yesterday.

A council report stated that since Christmas Eve, there has been ‘widespread flooding across the county’.

However, unlike similar flooding in 2013, when the Government made available schemes to support those affected by flooding, no support packages have been announced this time round.

WODC has already awarded 50 per cent discounts to six properties, where residents had to leave their homes and either rent alternative properties or stay with family and friends.

The meeting yesterday, which included a minute’s silence for Prince Philip, saw an agreement for an additional 50 per cent discount to be awarded to those impacted for a three month period, starting on the day they had to vacate their home.

Speaking at the meeting, deputy leader of WODC, and the council’s cabinet member for resources, Toby Morris said: “It’s important that we support our residents at these times when their homes are affected, so I’m more than happy to approve the recommendations as set out in the report.”

The meeting, which was held virtually, lasted for three minutes and 26 seconds.
