NO new coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Oxfordshire.

Nine new cases of coronavirus were recorded in the county yesterday.

One case was reported in Oxford, five in south Oxfordshire, one in Vale of White Horse District, none in West Oxfordshire and two in Cherwell.

It brings the total number of cases reported in the county to 33,958.

The current weekly rate of cases per 100,000 population in Oxfordshire is 19.4.

In England, two deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test were recorded yesterday and 1,770 Covid cases were recorded.

Between May 3 and May 9, there have been 67 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. This shows a decrease of -39.1 per cent compared to the previous seven days.

Between May 3 and May 9, 14,659 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows a decrease of -4.3 per cent compared to the previous seven days.

And by the end of May 8, 35,371,669 people had been given a first dose of the Covid vaccine while 17,669,379 people had been given a second dose.

There were 163 coronavirus patients in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on May 6.

Public Health England recently changed the way it records the figures.

Cases identified through a positive lateral flow test – those which can deliver results within half an hour – will no longer be counted if the person then takes a PCR test, which is sent to a lab to be checked, and receives a negative result within three days. An update on the lockdown roadmap will be announced today.
