A new gourmet burger bar opened in Carterton with the mayor Cllr Nick Leverton on hand in full regalia.

Burgers and Brews was created to be “a cool place to hang out, eating burgers and drinking a great array of beverages,” said co-owner Sam Halsey.

“Our menu consists mainly of homemade burgers and homemade fries. We’ve kept things simple, yes, but with a huge emphasis on quality.

“We genuinely want to make the best burgers and fries in the county and beyond and don’t think we are far away!”

Weekly specials are promoted on social media and include the French dip burger, a double stacked cheeseburger topped with slow roasted rump beef with a dipping jus, the El Diablo! - tequila, creme de cassis, lime juice and ginger beer - cocktail and creme brûlée hardshake (alcoholic milkshake) of the week.

“This keeps things fresh and exciting for both customers and ourselves as we relish coming up with new ideas!” said Mr Halsey.

The beers and ciders and ingredients for the homemade burgers and fries are all locally sourced.

The owners, Mr Halsey, long-standing friend Maverick Ogden and his wife Sian started the Chequers Smokehouse in Witney seven years ago, moving and renaming it Red Lion Smokehouse a year ago.

With family in Carterton and having been kept afloat by takeaways, Mr Halsey said: “We are beyond excited to be open again inside as we’ve missed the buzz of a busy restaurant and interacting with customers.”
