The Truth Fairies will be performed live by Witney Dramatic Society after being successfully shown online during lockdown.

The play by Sally Kinnell is a darkly comic piece focussing on retired actor Aileen, played by Margaret Hamm, who receives a mysterious surprise when two old friends who she thought were dead reappear.

The story centres on the friends’ memories of one night and a party back in the 1970s which uncovers truths that may have a big impact on their lives.

Director Teresa Heys said: “We are hoping our audiences will feel a full range of emotions watching this lovely play, and we can’t wait for people to join us to experience a night enjoying a performance once again.

“Our Zoom performance earlier in the year was well-received, but the reason we all get involved with amateur dramatics is to connect with our audiences, and you can’t beat the atmosphere of a group of people in the same room reacting to the performance together.”

WDS chairman Tony Payne said utilising technology has opened up new possibilities for the society.

During lockdown, WDS made use of Zoom to continue its rehearsals and club nights, with society members performing their own short plays, poems, and songs.

Teresa added: “We have been very careful with rehearsals for The Truth Fairies. They began over Zoom and we were slowly able to meet in person to rehearse as restrictions lifted. Our cast are all taking regular lateral flow tests to ensure we are being as safe as possible.”

The Truth Fairies is on October 28, 29 and 30 at Witney Methodist Church on Witney High Street. Tickets available at Rapture in the Woolgate Centre, or ticketsource.co.uk/witney-dramatic-society.
