Anyone hoping to enjoy this week’s hot weather while watching delighted kids running through a cool spray of water may be in for a disappointment.

Witney Town Council has reported that the splash pads at The Leys recreation ground will not be working.

The council said "the timing could not be worse" as it informed residents in a Facebook post: “We have been made aware of a problem with the Splash Pads at the Leys. One of the sensors is not working and the water flow from the working area is erratic as a result."

The council said the sensor will be repaired as soon as possible.

The post also reminded people that if they want to cool off "please look for safe options".

Due to the nature of the body of water and its unpredictable depths and stability of the banks, swimming and paddling are not permitted anywhere at Witney Lake.
