Enthusiastic fundraisers are already gearing up for the 22nd Witney in the Pink Day which this year takes place a week earlier than normal on Saturday, September 24.

“Due to a date clash we’ve had to move it from our normal spot on the first Saturday in October, but we wanted to make sure that everyone knows Pink Day is very much on the 2022 calendar,” said Jeanne Chattoe, chair of Witney Action Group of the Abingdon-based charity Against Breast Cancer.

This vibrant and popular community occasion has, over the years, raised a total in excess of £250,000 for vital research to improve detection, treatment and increase survival from breast cancer.

The organisers are lining up a fun-filled day from 9am-4pm in the town centre, which will be decorated with hundreds of biodegradable pink balloons. There will be a grand tombola and cake stall, a tin collection, and a packed programme of street entertainment including local choirs, bands and dancers. And, once again, a cavalcade of pink cars will parade through the town and then park up on Church Green for viewing.

“Witney in the Pink Day is a magical event – the support every year is tremendous and unwavering,” said Mrs Chattoe, from Witney.

“It’s such a wonderful, feelgood event and it’s raised awareness too, helping an awful lot of people to talk about breast cancer and reach out for help and support.”

“We’d welcome help to ensure Pink Day is a resounding success again this year – particularly tombola prizes and pledges of cakes for the cake stall,” she added.

“And we are appealing to shops, pubs, and Witney businesses to ‘pink’ their windows and premises too, or to organise an initiative such as pink drinks, a raffle or quiz.

“Last year we had torrential rain all day, but the wonderful people of Witney and district put up their umbrellas and came down to support us, and we still raised an amazing £4,000.”
