ANDY Whing has signed a new two-year deal with Banbury United after guiding the Puritans to promotion last season.

The former Oxford United defender led Banbury to the Southern League Premier Central title, winning the division by an astonishing 23 points.

The club is set to play at the highest level in their history in the 2022/23 season, as they prepare for life in Vanarama National League North.

Whing will be with them for the journey, and told the club website: “I’m absolutely delighted, the previous two years have been unbelievable, from when I first joined and what we’ve done in the last two years has been fantastic.

“It’s a really exciting time for the football club, moving in to the National League set up for the first time in the club’s history and I’m really proud to be a part of it.”

Puritans chairman Ronnie Johnson added: “It’s great to have Andy on board for two more years. The club has enjoyed an amazing two seasons under Andy’s management and we are really pleased to be able to reward him with a new improved deal.

“We are delighted he will lead the team as we face the exciting new challenges of Step Two football.”

Whing joined Banbury in April 2020, signing a two-season contract in March 2021.

The revised deal will see Whing manage the club through to the end of the 2023/24 season.
