A photographer has captured amusing picture of a rather scruffy looking red kite.

The images were taken by Oxford Mail Camera Club member Paul Mallarini.

Pictures taken by Mr Mallarini, behind the back of Sunningwell village hall, show the bird with extremely dishevelled feathers, making it look like it is having a particuarly bad hair day.

Mr Mallarini said: “I was lucky as I noticed the kite land from the corner of my eye.

“It was quite windy hence it’s bedraggled state.”

At one time, red kites were nearly hunted to extinction but following a reintroduction programme they can be found in many places around the country.
