Witney’s ever-popular Pink Day fundraiser went off with a bang on Saturday as the town transformed into a sea of pink balloons and happy faces.
Organisers, the Witney action team of the Abingdon-based charity Against Breast Cancer, promised a ‘best ever’ day – and that was what they delivered!
“Witney, you are amazing!” enthused Jeanne Chattoe, chair of the team, who received the British Empire Medal last year for her tireless breast cancer fundraising.
“This is and has always has been the most bright, fun and inspiring day - the local community and businesses give us their unstinting support.
“Everyone was dressed in pink, the shop windows were pinker than ever, the town centre was filled with music and dance - even the sun shone!
“We wish we could thank you all individually, but from the fantastic volunteers who blew up all the balloons, to the Scouts who put them up, to the organisers of all sorts of individual events and initiatives, all those who ‘shook’ tins, the fabulous ladies of my wonderful team – this is one big heartfelt thank you!”
This was the 24th Witney in Pink Day and it raised £4,700 on the day. This will be boosted further as money comes in from individual events.

Highlights of the day included a fantastic parade of pink cars from the Pink Car Owners Club and Witney Scooter Club, a day-long programme of street entertainment featuring everything from bands, choirs and soloists to ‘Elvis’, belly dancers, hand-bell ringers and guitarists, cake stall, grand tombola and tin collection.
The official opening and judging of shop windows was performed by the town mayor, Owen Collins.
“How do you sum up something so spectacular, it’s just so humbling that people come out every year to support such a worthy cause – over the years our team has raised well in excess of £300,000 towards Against Breast Cancer’s research,” Mrs Chattoe added.
“And we don’t stop! Plans are already in hand for our 25th Pink Day anniversary in 2025 – it will be mega!”
